Chapter 8-9

Chapter 8
Gift for the Darkness
Simon's Talk With the Lord of the Flies
At the end of chapter seven, Simon is sent out into the forest to tell Piggy that they are going up to check the fire. He never finds Piggy. He stumbles through the forest and encounters the “Lord of the Flies”. His imagination explains the boy's situation on the island to him through the dead pig's head. The pig tells him that the beastie will never be killed. It says that the beastie is inside all of them. What it meant by them was that it is the fear and anger inside of them. The beastie on one hand brings them together with the hunting but at the same time tears them apart with the fear. The beastie represents the books subject bout the battle between good versus evil. This event was the weirdest out of all of them because Simon goes back to the real world in the middle of everyone's savagery. Also, the pig tells him that there is no hope and that he will get him with Jack, Roger and the rest of them. The pig head foreshadows Simon's death and that is what freaks me out the most.
Chapter 9
View to a Death
View to a Death is a very strange and shocking chapter that really changed the story. In this chapter, Simon is mistaken for the beastie and murdered on the beach by the boys. The one thing that I can't do is blame a certain person for his murder. I can blame human nature (evil). Some evidence that I have is throughout the book, you can see Jack's stride for power come out in his actions. Now, with his new tribe he has most power and is very close to overruling Ralph as leader. I blame evil because it is in everyone. Like the Lord of the flies said, the beastie is in all of them and it will never be killed. He was also killed with fear. Like Piggy said on page 156, they were scared. It was dark, the lighting and thunder struck above them and the rain poured down hard. There isn't that much to say. These support my claim because like I said, pressure builds up all over the island. This was the result of that pressure which was a very shocking event. Overall, this story takes to drastic matters. There is no one to blame directly other than evil in general. Simon's stride for power and human nature lead to this tragic event.
