Journal #3
Chapters 8-9
Perspective of Jem
Dear Journal,
These last few days have been both malignant and interesting. Not only have we had the first snowfall in my life and since 1885, but we've gotten in and out of some trouble everywhere. First off, one morning, after witnessing one of the coldest nights of my life, I was awoken by a scream from Scout. I looked outside my window and saw what the tyranny was for. I was looking at something I had never seen before. We asked Atticus what it was and when it would stop but he only could answer snow for it was something he too had not experienced. When he said we wouldn't have school today, my first idea was to do as I once read in a book about snow. I asked Atticus if he knew how to build a snowman. He said no so I went outside with Scout to see how we could pull off this teetered idea. I said that we should wait for some more snow to fall and suggested that we not step on it and waste the precious snow. So we set off to Ms. Maudie's house and went to borrow snow from her. We also took snow from the front and swapped the dirt in the bask for it. When we had enough snow, we began and the final product was exactly how I expected it to turn out. I was definitely not quibbling for Atticus's return home. The last touch was Ms. Maudie's hat and a pair of her leaf cutters for the arms. Thats was the highlight of my time. The next few days went by fast and very rough. Again, that night was blistering cold. Everyone had their fires going and the one thing that everyone was evading, happened to Ms. Maudie's home when it burned down that night. We stayed and watched as people through her furniture out the window and tried to save it. In the midst of that, Boo Radley put a blanket over Scout. That is something I will never stop tormenting her about. Lastly, we were forced to go to Aunt Alexandra's house and Scout got in trouble for something I don't know about. I think that it was because of Atticus's new case. I don't think Scout will be able to handle the upcoming events in her life. I my self am worried for this family.
